A pretty cool online ad.

It gets harder and harder to impress the average joe nowadays.  Especially with all those fancy flashy websites, neato graphics things, blinky lights and in your face viral videos, etc...  etc...

But you've got to check this out.

It's neat, it's hip and... and... I just like it.

It's on Youtube.

It's your 20 second diversion of the day...

You know I'm a true geek...

... when it's taking EVERYTHING in me to *not* put this in my shopping cart and checkout.

What is it?

It's the LEGO Castle Giant Chess Set.  It's a chess set designed to bring out the geek/nerd/engineering kid back out of me.  The board measures 17"x17"...  how awesome!  All, I need to do it pull out my pocket protector, tape up my glasses and pull my pants up past my gut.

My wife won't admit it, but I know she thinks that's hot!

Yes!!!

So, Sherrie being a cunning linguist obviously has been able to refine her scrabble and word twist skills to point that makes it really difficult for me to win any word building related games.  If you didn't know this, you see me complain all to often here on my blog (here and here).  Her lexicon is top notch...  and her ability to see words out of nothing is uncanny.

This skill isn't so much a skill she learned, it's more like a skill that's bred into her...  I can confidently say that it's most definitely in her blood.

How do we know this?  Play against Tara, her sister...  and, if you want a really annihilation invite, into the picture, Julia, Sher's mom.

I have just one word to say Julia and her word skills.

"Huh?!", which loosely translates to "Holy moly, mother of god, how does she come up with these mad points?!"

Anyway, the point is not so much to pay accolades to the girls' skills, but rather, throw down some smack.  Since I very rarely have the opportunity to gloat, I'm doing so now.

Yes... that's me winning a game.  I know, it's not necessarily a "kicked ass" win or a "run away with your tail between you legs" annihilation, but it's a win, nonetheless.

Did I mention that we're all VERY competitive?

It's not over 'til it's over.

I just came back with an 80+ point play to take a win away from Sherrie.  Who has been consistently kicking my ass for the past couple of months.

I actually didn't know I won until I saw the "Jude D WINS!" message.  ;)  Of course, upon finding out a victory dance was in order.

So, the people in my office think I'm crazy.

I guess it goes to show that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.

New "High School Musical" Cast

I'm a big Disney fan. Always have been. I'm sure it has everything to do with my parent taking my sister and me to Disney World every other year to visit rides like Space Mountain, The Carousel of Progress and The Haunted Mansion. Not to mention the numerous times we got to hang out with Mickey Mouse and his crew.

To me, Disney World is a kid's dream come true... And of course, we've been taking our kids there too... so, it's become a sort of family tradition to get there at least once every three years.

It's obvious that Disney has figured out the formula for success. And this formula seems to work equally for both kids and adults alike.

Currently, the phenomenon known as "High School Musical" has invaded our household. So, it's of no surprise that Vivian would get something "High School Musical" related for her birthday.

From here aunt and uncle, Martini Jeanne and The Fog, she received "High School Musical Sing It" for the Wii. And let me tell you, it's pretty awesome. It's pretty much a karaoke game and all songs are from both HSM and HSM2. Basically, you earn points and a grade for hitting the right notes, at the right pitch, at the right time. Better the performance, you open up new options and extras throughout the game.

The picture, herein, is of Sher and the kids singing some tune from the game. You could see the kids being hams in my flickr set located here: http://www.flickr.com/gp/53796034@N00/7R3466

Can you say "Shiitake"?

Definition of crazy - doing something over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

shiitake

Definition of Shiitake - name for a Chinese Black Mushroom, Sher's most recent BINGO.

I, personally would spell it with two "T's".  Shiittake, which can be anagram for "I take shit."  Needless to say, Sherrie is kicking my tail.  AGAIN.

Actually, the people who are really getting "Shiitakeed" are the two Indian brothers, Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, who founded   Scrabulous back in 2006.  They are currently getting sued by Hasbro for trademark infringement.  Sigh...

As a side note, the Agarwalla brothers bring in about $25,000/month in ad revenues alone for the popular application, Scrabulous.  I'm sure Hasbro could have made some kind of happy compromise.

Here's an article about it on techdirt.com.

Apparently, I like to get spanked.

But, I take it like a man...  regardless of how much I get beat, I'll hold out all the way until the end.  Case in point, my last Scrabulous game with Sherrie.  Sometimes, you can tell right away when things are headed downhill quick.

scrabulous

If you're on facebook, come find me and challenge me to a game.  If you're a cute girl, I may let you spank me, too.

ACEROSE?!?

In the time it took my to post my last blog...  Miss Sherrie D has played another bingo.

scrabble5

sigh...  So, yes...  four bingos in five move.

BTW, for those of you not in the know, acerose is an adjective for needlelike, as in the leave of pine.

I'm sure I could say some naughty reference to some sexual euphemism, but my brain is pretty spent just trying to keep up w/ Sher in this game.

If I had a portal gun...

... I'd drop a 18 Wheel Semi on the SCUBA van so I could get a new Nissan XTERRA. If there were a couple choice people near the vicinity that got crushed in the process, I wouldn't be heartbroken. Don't know what's a portal gun is? Obviously you're not a gamer... or, you haven't read my blog recently.

Doesn't everyone deserve a second chance?

You know, I mentioned my unfortunate mishap with Herb, our XBOX 360, however what I neglected to say is that I did do some of research on the quick fixes to resurrect it back to life. Long story short… don’t do ‘em. I didn’t try ‘em… but anything involving baking your XBOX in its own heat or cracking it open with your own soldering gun, just didn’t sound appealing to me. Plus, who has the time or the patience. I certainly don’t. Actually, I lie. I did have some free time on Friday, and I ended up visiting a GameStop store. Why GameStop? No reason, I was actually headed to get a quick beer at the Buffalo Wild Wings next door. But, I started to think that I could pick up Herb’s replacement and deal with dead Herb at a later date. (My definition of “deal with” loosely translates into “quickly being forgotten on a shelf in the basement left to collect dust”.) It’s a good thing I stopped in. A Mr. John of GameStop kindly informed me that Microsoft has extended the XBOX 360’s warranty up to three years, specifically for the Ring of Death. Hoorah for Herb… he does get a second chance. Why didn’t I find this news release last week? I don’t know, I just play the games and watch the movies… the damn thing should take care of itself. I mean it is part of the hive. errr, I meant to say XBOX Live. So, I called 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and a nice Filipina named Mary assisted me through a pretty painless call. We talked a little bit, the weather in the Philippines was nice when she went in to work, but it was close to 4am PST (Philippine Standard Time or Pamantayang Oras ng Pilipinas) so it could have been bad for all she new. What happens next? Monday I should get a box that I put Herb into and he comes back 1 to 2 weeks later good as new. Now that’s easy. Wow Microsoft! I do admit I feel guilty being so hard on Bill and all. But he’s a trillionaire, he can take a little criticism every once in awhile. Anyway, I've over it. More importantly, I think for a treat… I’ll be getting this for Good as New Herb to munch on…

Portal, due out now, from the maker's of Half-Life.

Details about Valve's new one player game, Portal can be found here. And, remember kids, "If at first you don’t succeed, you fail."
