Here's my new formula for creating a Hot Top Forty Song...
Think of this as a follow up to the Formula doesn't work.
Prerequisite & Disclaimers
If you're a young Hollywood actress and have been on the cover of FHM or Esquire magazine, you have a 5% chance of success with this formula. Your video will be watched; however, not by the type of audience you're hoping to attract. Just warning you now.
Okay, let's get started writing our new Top 40 Hit.
Step 1 - find beat
In your head think "thump di di thump di di thump di di" and repeat 1000 times. This allows you to (as they say in the industry) "feel" the music. Now start bopping your head to the rhythm, this will get you in the mood to write the lyrics.
Step 2 - write lyrics
As you're bopping your head... think of words that rhyme, and make special notes of any trite thoughts that everybody thinks they'd relate to.
Here's a classic, are you pissed off at your significant other? Great... let's write about that... No? Don't worry, eventually you will be. And besides, your music will be symbolic of war and the current state of the economy. Focus... words that rhyme.
Sad... Mad... (everyone get's sad then mad at least once in there life... if not, they've gotten mad then sad... again who cares.. symbolism... the audience will get it, even if you don't, plus, if they didn't they wouldn't admit it...)
Now... put it all togeter...
I loved this guy named Burt
And he's all made me Sad
Now I'm truly Hurt
So, all my girlfriends are Mad...
Don't worry about grammar or proper English you're an artist and this is one of your creative licenses.
Step 3 - production
This is where the magic happen. Hirer some scantily clad models, one good looking guy (who'll play Burt), add the words "sexual undulation", *mix it all together, then serve.
Here's a good example of a finished product:

*Please note: The Mixing part will require a high priced choreographer and a Hollywood director (b/c they *ALWAYS* know what they're doing; plus you want his interpretation of the music embedded into your audiences' brain [yes, singular])... and don't forget... undulate, undulate, undulate.
And my number one piece of advice: Remember... don't allow the audience to think freely, otherwise they won't continue to listen to your music.

This love song was written by Sarah McLachlan to her husband. It's an apology and thank-you song addressing the craziness and insanity that comes when life changes. Many life changes can test even the strongest relationships. For Sarah, her event was her pregnancy and birth of their daughter.
From her intro in the above video, she indicates her husband got the short end of the stick, but was always there for her. Her husband's love was the inspiration for this song.
What's my inspiration for this post? There was a fatal accident close to the kids' school earlier today. The thought of lives lost so suddenly always reminds me how important it is to make every day count. More importantly I'm reminded of how especially important is it to thank the people around you who accept you for who you are and love you no matter what.
If you put it off too long, you may never get the chance.

When will the music industry learn? Good music is not a function of attractiveness, age and/or mediocre acting ability.
Even with all the technological advancements when it comes to sound, you could make people sound "better", but people still don't want to do have to deal with a Milli Vanilli or hear excuses of acid reflux

Late 80's / Early 90's
Alyssa Milano, you know the cute Italian girl from Who's the boss. She came out with several albums, but they were all god awful.
Mid 90's / Early 00's
Jennifer Love Hewitt - okay... she was popular in Japan and was a pop icon there and then found her way into acting here in the states... but, still... would I listen to her? No. Plus, The Japanese like some really weird stuff.

I'm still laughing...
On several occasions, we do house calls and assist clients with their home computer or networking needs. It's no big thing, actually, it can be pretty enjoyable... especially if it's after hours and the client is more a friend who has a case of beer in the fridge. Check out what happens to me way too many times to count.
Okay, for the record, nothing like this has every happened to me, since most of my clients are middle-aged men... sigh.
And, another note for the record, *I* am not the Mariah Carey fan, although, I do find her attractive, her music is a little to bubbly for me. I found this via The Fog who sent it over via StumbleUpon... I think he might be a closet Mariah fan. ;)

If you know me, you know I'm a big U2 fan. I've been one ever since I was a wee lad back in the 80's.
I'm especially a lover of their older, earlier music. You know, albums like Boy, War, and October.
If you don't know, "This Song is Not a Rebel Song" it's was U2's nonpartisan condemnation of the 1972 Bloody Sunday in Derry, Northern Ireland. On January 30, 1972, British Paratroopers killed 13 people (6 of which being minors) during a civil rights protest.
As the story goes, The Edge starting writing Sunday Bloody Sunday with lyrics condemning the IRA. However due to the political air in Ireland and the possibility of the lyrics being misinterpreted as sectarian, Bono changed the lyrics to simply point out the horrors of war and violence. One of his goals was to contrast the 1972 Bloody Sunday with Easter Sunday, a peaceful day which *both* Catholics and Protestants celebrate.

I simply wanted to share this cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by Saul Williams. It was produced and arranged by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. The song is from the album "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust".
It addresses another kind of war that's closer to home.
Also, 50 years ago this week, The United States' first satellite, Explorer 1 was sent into orbit.
45 years ago, an international network of antennas were put together, marking the establishment of the Deep Space Network. A network designed to help support missions to explore the universe.
And, 40 years ago, the Beatles recorded a song written by John Lennon named "Across the Universe".
How cool is that?

Well, guess what? Reports of an 80's icon reemerging into the spotlight are surfacing all around the music and entertainment industry.
The 80's boy band, New Kids on the Block are planning on a reunion.
I know what you're thinking.
You're thinking, "No Way!"
But I say, "WAY!!"
"Just get on the floor and do the New Kids Dance!"
They predicted the reunion really, in their song "Hangin' Tough", I quote "if you try to keep us down we're gonna come right back!"
Here they are 14 years later and getting some new buzz.
"ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohh!"
I'm not a fan, but my friend Olivia loves 'em, still to this day. My sister still has the CD in her old room at my parents' house. Why she left it there and not bring it to New York with her, who knows.
I will admit, however, that I've seen these guys in concert.
